Like most of the human population, I have a Facebook account. That is the only social media account I have. I don't have Twitter, or Instagram; I don't even know the purpose behind Snapchat. My boys, and my nieces have everything. Some, I've never even heard of! I usually log in to Facebook daily, but then almost immediately log out again. It's the same thing over and over again. People putting their personal drama out there for all the world to see. Or I see various religious posts. I'm sorry, but I don't need to share anything to prove that I have faith in God. I don't need to "like" something to prove that I'm paying attention. I don't need to see what you're having for dinner, or details about your latest diet fad.
Social media is getting out of hand. I read a story about a man who beat his wife nearly to death because she didn't like his Facebook post. Seriously???? I was floored when I read this. I read another article about someone unfriending a person and she had her dad and brother kill the other person. Over being unfriended? Have people lost their fucking minds? I have been unfriended, and I have been blocked. Do you know what I do? I MOVE ON! It doesn't matter to me at all.
I know people who are constantly on Facebook. Their whole lives revolve around that little website. People would rather message me on Facebook than call or text me. It's hard to have an intelligent conversation with anyone because they are always distracted by Facebook on their phones, or only want to talk about who posted what on Facebook. It gets redundant and irritating. It is also disrespectful to go to someone's home with the pretense of "visiting" then spend the whole time scrolling Facebook on thier phones. And people call ME anti-social?
The art of intelligent conversation is fighting a losing battle against social media. I have actually heard people say that if it isn't on Facebook, it didn't happen, or they don't want to hear about it. This is how the government creates SHEEPLE (sheep + people = Sheeple). People only believe what they can see on social media, and not paying attention to the real world issues. Watch the news sometime, read a damn book. EDUCATE yourselves. That is the only way we will create a better world.
